Lincoln Cathedral

Lincoln Cathedral in England dates from the late 12th century and many of its architectural features are influenced by Canterbury Cathedral before its reconstruction. This soaring elegant cathedral was inspired by visionary bishop Hugh of Avalon and is considered one of the greatest Gothic cathedrals outside of France. The central tower illuminates the transept crossing with light, and is also the receptacle for the Lincoln bell. The magnificent vaulting raises the visitor to the heavens while light streams into the cathedral interior from gallery windows. The interplay of stone filled with stained glass suggests unshakable solidity combined with lightness and luminescence.
