St. Denis Cathedral Window

The construction of St. Denis Cathedral began in 1122 A.D. and marks the true beginning of the Gothic style of architecture. The great Gothic cathedrals transformed Europe from darkness to light in the course of only 100 years. This exquisite stained glass window translates Eastern wisdom into Western iconography and shows the lineage of Jesus from the House of David. The depth and brilliance of colour derives from precious jewels that were ground up by artisans to create the stained glass windows. The colour and light produce a transcendent power that connects to our higher spiritual centers. The symbolism is based on Neo-Platonic teachings which emphasize the principle that God is Light and attempts to bring about the 'New Jerusalem' on Earth by transforming all humanity.
